Honey Snap: A Sweet Bee Power Souvenir
We make our "homemade" Honey Snaps in a traditional way. As with other cookies made out of honey, the main ingredietns are flour, eggs, yeast, cinnamon , sugar and honey. Honey Snaps are Croatian cookies, recognizable for their sweet taste, color and irresistible flavor. They are more then just a tasty treat, they are a part of our Croatian cultural heritage, and are sold here as a recognizable souvenir for many of our customers, tourists and visitors.
Ingredients and preparation:
The main ingredients of Honey Snaps are flour, eggs, yeast, cinnamon, sugar and honey. Sometimes nuts and spices like lemon peel are also used. The dough is formed into small balls, in our case also into hexagons, and then they are baked for a short time until they reach a lovely golden color.
Honey Snaps are traditionally made all over Croatia, but there are also regional variations. In some areas, like in Medjimurje, dried figs or prunes are added for an additional fruity taste. Icing made from powdered sugar or chocolate is also common in some regions. And so we at Bee Power have created our own shape, our own attractive and recognizable recipe for Honey Snaps that are both very traditional and absolutely unique.
History and significance:
Honey Snaps have been present in Croatian gastronomy for centuries. They are still often prepared for special occasions such as Christmas, Easter and village festivities such as Saints Days and the like. Giving Honey Snaps was a gesture of hospitality and neighborliness.
